Fifth graders focus on analyzing text themes, comparing and contrasting ideas, and summarizing nonfiction texts with attention to comprehension and interpretation. They write well-organized essays, research reports, and narratives with clear structure and detailed evidence. In math, students master multiplication and division of larger numbers and solve complex word problems. They also work with fractions and decimals, understanding place value up to the million’s place. Social-emotionally, fifth graders refine their ability to manage complex emotions, especially in stressful situations, and develop strong teamwork and collaboration skills through group projects.
