Title I Compact
Overview
Irving Elementary and the parents of the students participating in activities, services, and programs funded by Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State’s high academic standards.
Irving Elementary will:
Provide a high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet the State’s student academic achievement standards as follows:
- A safe and engaging learning environment that incorporates PBIS, No Bully, Zones of Regulation and the Re-Think Ed Social-Emotional Learning Curriculum
- Computer-based instruction offers individualized, differentiated, and engaging instructional opportunities
- Family engagement and support programs that encourage family involvement in student achievement
- Wonders Curriculum
- Provide authentic learning experiences that are student-centered
- Achieve goals in academic achievement and growth through a collaborative culture
Hold parent-teacher conferences during which this compact will be discussed as it relates to the individual child’s achievement. Specifically, those conferences will be held:
- During October 2023 and Student Led Conferences TBD in the spring
- Parent-Teacher Conference upon request by a parent
Provide parents with frequent reports on their children’s progress. Specifically, the school will provide reports as follows:
- Communicate through Class Dojo
- Inform parents of all meetings as well as encourage and invite parents to attend
- Parent Portal Access (highly recommended)
- RtI Meetings for identified students
- Up-to-date progress in Infinite Campus
Provide parents reasonable access to staff. Specifically, staff will be available for consultation with parents as follows:
- Hold an annual “Back to School Night” to meet staff and learn about Title I programs
- Meet with parents upon request and/or return phone calls in a timely manner
- School Facebook and Class Dojo communication
- Parent-Teacher Organization meetings
- Request a meeting
- School or classroom phone messages
Provide parents opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child’s class, and to observe classroom activities, as follows:
- Attend school functions during the day or evening
- Complete volunteer background check
- Involve parents in the annual planning, review, and improvement of the School Parent Involvement Policy
- Make arrangements with the classroom teacher for a time and specific volunteer activities
- Read the School Parent Involvement Policy, school newsletters, and informational literature available in the Parent Resource Center located at the front entrance of the school
- Sign-in and wear a volunteer badge at all times
Parent Responsibilities
We, as parents, will support our children’s learning in the following ways:
- Stay informed about my child’s education and by communicating with the school by promptly reading all notices from the school and/or school district either received by my child or by mail and responding, as appropriate
- Ensure adequate rest and nutrition
- Provide updated contact information to the school
- See that the child is in school and on time every day
- Treat school staff with care and respect
- Utilize parent portal access
Student Responsibilities
We, as students, will share the responsibility to improve our academic achievement and achieve the State’s high standards. Specifically, we will:
- Do my homework every day and ask for help when I need it
- Read at least 30 minutes every day outside of school time
- Give to my parents, or the adult who is responsible for my welfare, all notices and information received by me from the school every day
- Believe that we can achieve high standards and work towards them
- Come prepared to class every day and ready to learn with AVID materials
- Follow all school rules including dress code policy
- If I have a cell phone, I will keep it in my backpack or pocket at all times
Title One Programs and Plan
- Inform parents about goals and purposes of Title I, curriculum used in Title I programs, academic assessments used to measure student progress, and proficiency levels students are expected to meet.
- Involve parents in the planning, review, and improvement of Title I programs at school.
- If the Title I Plan is not satisfactory to the parents, submit parent comments on the plan to the district.
- If requested by parents, provide opportunities for regular meetings where parents may offer suggestions or ask questions.
- Provide timely responses to parent’s suggestions/questions.
- Provide assistance to parents, as appropriate, in understanding assessments, Title I requirements, monitoring academic progress, and how to work together to improve student achievement.
